MileagePlus is the loyalty program of the new United, taking effect later in the first quarter of 2012. Existing members of United's MileagePlus and/or Continental's OnePass programs have been receiving emails from United and Continental regarding details of the 2012 program.

Until the 2012 MileagePlus program begins, nothing will change regarding a member's
account(s). Members of MileagePlus and OnePass should continue using their respective account numbers as they do today to accrue miles, book flights, request upgrades and more.

A summary of what to expect:

1. Start Date: The 2012 MileagePlus Program will take effect later in the first quarter. The exact date will be announced in the near future.

2. 2011 Elite Card Validity: Current privileges will be extended until the 2012 MileagePlus program takes effect.

3. Account Numbers: Eight digit alphanumeric account numbers will be assigned to those members who currently have 11 digit account numbers.

4. Account Linkage: Members with both a MileagePlus and OnePass accounts must link their accounts.

5. 2012 Miles Earned: Miles earned after January 1, 2012 will count toward 2013 status.
